Advice to Aspiring Athletes

As an athlete growing up in Maumee, Ohio, a suburb of Toledo, Ohio, Mike Teifke was inspired by football greats Jim Brown and Lou Groza of the Cleveland Browns.  He saw many great players play on the field of the historic Cleveland Municipal Stadium and saw many Championships won.  His dream of playing for his team and on his field of dreams happened on October 11, 1987.  On this day his dream was made into a reality.

The times have changed and so has the culture.  Many star athletes have succumbed to the pressures of the society and the role models of the past have fallen away to be replaced by drugs, violence and other illegal activities.  It is a new day and one that young athletes need to be watchful of.

In an interview with ex Seattle Seahawks and Cleveland Browns player Michael Teifke was asked what advice he could give young aspiring athletes to help them pursue their dreams.

“The most important thing is to stay drug free.  This is crucial in being able to keep your focus.  When an athlete comes under the influence of drugs or other unhealthy influences, they truly cannot perform at their best and their athletic abilities will suffer.”  said Mike Teifke.

When asked what other things can an athlete do in order to maintain their abilities, Mike Teifke said, “In order to obtain your dreams you need to take care of yourself.  Eating well and training hard is only half the battle.  In order for you to truly succeed, you need to make sure to surround yourself with people that have a positive influence on you and who will support you throughout your pursuit of your dreams.”

In this hard edge world we live in, better advice could not be given.
